Last Thursday (the 8th of January) we took off on our yearly trip to the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in the RDS. Each year we exhibit a project in the Primary Science area and this year our topic was Global Warming & the Greenhouse Effect.
We wanted to show the effect of increasing the amount of carbon dioxide on the temperature of the planet. To do this we set up two bottles with temperature probes in each. One bottle contained atmospheric air while the other contained air with a greater concentration of carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas.
We set up the bottles as shown below with the lamp acting as the sun and recorded the temperature every minute for 10 minutes.
We found that the temperature in the bottle containing containing extra carbon dioxide increased by 1 degree more than the other bottle.
We set up our stand in the RDS and explained our project to the judges and others who stopped to have a look.
Everyone had a great day and the feedback from the judges was very positive!
