Hi all – this is Jen Ronan here, and I’m the resident New Girl here at Learning Hub Limerick. I thought I’d just take a few moments to say hello and introduce myself. I’m a Limerick girl (I say ‘girl’ but I’m weeks away from turning 38, so I use that word loosely) born and bred. I live in the City Centre – but I have massive family connections to Moyross and Killeely, where I spent many a day in my childhood running around creating havoc with various cousins and being minded by my many aunties! Our Halloween parties were the stuff of legends and tummy aches, I’ll have you know….
I’m so excited to be working with The Hub. There’s so much going on here that when people ask me what The Learning Hub is about, I take a deep breath and try to sum it up as efficiently as possible, but I feel I never do it justice. Those of you who know The Hub well, and who have been involved in any of its constantly growing list of activities can back me up when I say that The Hub is essentially a centre for all kinds of learning, from practical skills to educational, from personal development to physical fitness. What makes it all the more special is that it’s aimed at children from the age of 5 and goes all the way up to 14, with something for everyone along the way. Pretty awesome, right?
So my role here at The Hub is helping to update the social media of the Facebook pages along with the website, and I’m going to be involved with the Youth Café as well. Come September, all going well I’ll be helping to develop some creative writing / social media workshops, because when I’m not doing my thing here in Killeely House, I’m a writer working on her first book (very early days) and I also work as a freelance social media co-ordinator, covering events, festivals and organisations that have been happening all over the country, such as The Dalkey Book festival, Inspire Fest 2016 and I was involved with the crowdfunding campaign for the movie about Ireland’s favourite and most favourite drag Queen, Panti Bliss, entitled The Queen Of Ireland. I’ve also run the social media for a few TV shows too. It’s been a pretty busy couple of years!
Also…if you’re based at home during weekdays, you may also see me on TV3 from time to time as a panellist on the popular discussion show ‘Midday’, which airs Monday to Friday from 11.30am – 12.30pm. So I’m all over the place really! You can’t get away from me 🙂
So there you have it – I’m a Jen of all trades. Just thought I’d give you an idea of who’s behind some of the weird and wonderful stuff you’ll be seeing popping up on your news feed if you’ve liked our various Facebook pages. If you haven’t and you’d like to, here they are for ya! Just click on the pics below to go to the official Facebook pages…
And for our fantastic & hugely popular Science Hub page:
If you or anyone you know is musically inclined, our Music Hub is a phenomenal resource. We have a fantastic full recording studio that is used regularly by our Learning Hub community for workshops and projects we have going on. Not only that but the studio and recording space can be rented out for seriously reasonable rates if you or your band are looking to record or even for a rehearsal space, which can be hard to find. Click the pic for their Facebook page, and from there you can head to the Music Hub website and find out about rates and available times, etc.
If you see me around The Hub, come say hi! Looking forward to getting stuck in. It’s going to be a good year!
