Story Hub: Primary and Secondary
Story Hub is a creative writing workshop facilitated at the Learning Hub for primary and second level students. The aim is for the students, as a group and aided by Story Hub helpers, to write a book. The children decide on the characters and the plot, and write the story collectively sentence by sentence. The students view the story on a big screen as it is being typed. They edit, and make corrections as they go. Meanwhile, another member of the Story Hub team draws illustrations to go with the story. The group writing session takes the story about three-quarters of the way through the plot. The students then finish off the story by writing their own individual ending with the assistance of one of our volunteers.
In-house Publishing
While the students are individually writing the end to the story, the pages of the story they have written together are collated, printed, covered and bound with several blank pages at the end, so each child can write-up and illustrate the ending they have just written either at school or at home. A photo of each student as an ”Author Photo” is included on the back of each book. Each student leaves the Story Hub with his or her own book. Hundreds of primary students have already taken part in this wonderful creative writing experience and it is something the Hub hope to bring to children all over Limerick and further afield in the coming academic year.
