Over the past few months we have piloted several new STEAM workshops with local school groups. The aim of these is to incorporate the Arts into our already quite successful Science and Technology programs.
So far we have worked with 3 DEIS schools from Limerick City and the workshops have been extrememly enjoyable for both ourselves and the participants.
Over the course of the 6 week programs, pupils learn the basics of Scratch (computer programming), create animations and learn how to edit photos using open source software which they can get for free at home or in school.
We have been incredibly impressed with the levels of interest and capability of the pupils. It really shows how tuned in with technology they are even from a young age. Our experiences with groups so far has also shown us that there is a very high need for such activities if we are to help these children develop their already impressive skill sets in these areas!
