SCIENCE AT THE HUB
The Science Hub is the first initiative of its kind in the city of Limerick and is an exemplar of school, community, third-level and industry partnerships to increase engagement in science. Science and Engineering faculties in the University of Limerick (UL), Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) and the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) and academics and students in each of these institutions are involved in this project. The ‘Science Hub’ is based on the Learning Buddies model. The Learning Buddies programme, which partners young people with undergraduate mentors, is the bedrock of learning hub activity. This partnership is one which spreads the message of ‘Science for all’, through the involvement of all the partners; third level institutions, academics and students within these third level institutions, pupils and teachers in partner schools, the Learning Hub, industry and the community.

A PARTNERSHIP APPROACH TO SCIENCE
The partnership will encourage and promote the uptake of Science in the schools on in Limerick city. It is also envisaged that the ‘Science Hub’ will become a key focal point within the community for information on careers in Science, informing all involved in this partnership of the variety and scope of careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) areas. This will be carried out through utilizing the direct linkages with third level institutions, primary and second level pupils and industry in order to promote the relevance and diversity of STEM careers to pupils, teachers and the community. The Science Hub will foster the understanding and relevance of science, and its value to our society. Through the partnership with schools, pupils, teachers, parents and pre-service science and mathematics teachers and students in the third level institutions, linkages with the Science and Mathematics curriculums at primary and secondary level will be developed and enhanced.
