PRESCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAMME
Each session begins with live music performed by a group of professional musicians, exposing the children and their parents to a diverse range of sounds and musical genres. Access to live music is an important element of this project.
Aspects of music such as; tonality, rhythm and composition are explored in a fun and interactive way with both children and parents. Games that touch on pulse, pitch, duration and tempo are incorporated into weekly activities. Singing represents a natural and instantaneous way of making music. At preschool age many aspects of a child’s singing voice have yet to be developed. During this programme, singing encourages a sense of confidence and provides an accelerated route towards musical development. Future links with the Music Hub at the Learning Hub are encouraged and this ensures that music remains a part of the lives of participants from early years in primary school. Already parents feedback is that the music and games learned are proving to be a big hit at home and form part of “special time” between parent and child throughout the week. To date over 30 children and parents have been involved in this programme in collaboration with Moyross Creche, Corpus Christi Creche and Corpus Christi Primary School. We at the Learning Hub are very excited with how this dynamic partnership is developing.
