Orienteering
This eight week programme comprised of assessing and improving the group’s navigation, teamwork, problem solving, map reading skills and testing these skills in a number destinations. The programme began through a variety of different games and small orienteering courses based within the grounds of the Learning Hub and by incorporating murder mysteries into some of the courses as well as basic navigational compass use. The next phase these newly acquired orienteering skills were put to a practical test in a full orienteering course in Cratloe Woods.
The following two weeks the destination was the University of Limerick where the course is professionally laid out, maps were provided by the University’s Outdoor Pursuits club. The group successfully completed the courses. The final week saw the group return to the Learning Hub and for a final murder mystery themed course, with everyone using their detective and new-found orienteering skills to reveal the murderer.
