Music at the Hub
January saw the beginning of the ‘Music Hub’. In partnership with Limerick School of Music CLVEC, Learning Hub Limerick offers weekly classes in which they were taught the basics of music such as rhythm, group vocals, percussion and songwriting to young people from the ages of eight to fifteen. Each group’s first task was to compose a song to be later recorded and performed. The main aim was not to focus on any specific instrument but to create an introduction to music in a fun and interactive way. The young people were afforded the opportunity to engage in percussion and drumming workshops using a variety of percussion instruments including djembes and samba kits.
Recording Studio and Performance Space at the Learning Hub
Students have been offered guitar, musical technology and piano lessons and we have seen great success and talent emerging in these lessons. We have seen a fantastic improvement and development in the student’s confidence, willingness to participate and musical ability. Initially offered to the older students in the group, it is hoped that all students will be offered this invaluable opportunity in September 2011. This project is set to link up the with state of the art recording studio, rehearsal and performance space, the construction of which has just been completed here at the Learning Hub. Young people participating in Music Hub workshops will be encouraged to play and record their original compositions using this facility and to develop their musical and technical. This is an exciting development here at the Hub and the future is bright for the young musical talent here at the Hub.
